They don’t want to give you benefits - Standardized Patient Virginia Commonwealth University Employee Review

Pros

SPs and immediate supervisors are nice, friendly theatre people and the schedule is flexible.

Cons

The higher ups keep you at no more than 29 hrs/wk average through the school year so they don’t have to make you full time and give you things like healthcare or vision/dental…They don’t really care about your feedback on the curriculum or your experience either. I worked there when the program first started and came back to it over a decade later and they haven’t raised the hourly rate. Absolutely criminal.

Pros

They care about the employees. There are multiple efforts to support everyone, it is a welcoming environment, HR is very supportive.

Cons

VCU is incredibly bureaucratic and poorly ran. Things move slow, very slow. More slow than normal universities should. It isn't just "oh this is academia, things move slow." It's legitimate poor management across multiple levels of leadership.
