Pros

Challenging environment leads to guaranteed learning if you can hack it. Additionally it looks good on a resume.

Cons

Salary. Initially it seems good, until you realize how pigeon holed into it you become. Opportunities for advancement are slim, and rewarded to sycophants and incompetent associates who keep their head down and don't ask questions. The company toutes itself as a credit union yet charges extortionate fees to the poorest, neediest members. If you're a member going through terrible life experiences, good luck! Vacus strict and draconian corporate structure aligns it closer to big banks than credit unions. And work life balance? Forget about it. This place will suck you absolutely dry and spit you out. Managers are incompetent and focus strictly on numbers and productivity. Rewards for accomplishments are pathetic. My team slavishly devoted themselves to a certain goal for half a year to be rewarded with the food equivalent of fifty dollars. Goals and metrics are identical to big banks and tracked obsessively, but big banks have more budget to blow on incentives. Vacu won't even develop an over the phone payment system, much less reward hard working associates. As you achieve major goals, rather than be rewarded, the goal post will constantly be shifted. Tiny, near inconsequential raises (think two percent) will be dangled in front of you. Meanwhile you will earn hundreds of thousands of dollars for a company that is all too happy to hang you out to dry. Over the past few years attrition has increased, and most of the talented agents have moved on to better opportunities. Leadership is toxic from the top down, and their toxic behavior then trickles down into the associates. Then, when associates don't act in a manner pleasing to their overlords, leadership will then punish them with threats of punitive action or termination. If you are a free thinking financial professional who values customer service and going above and beyond for your clients, run to the hills. This company will give honeyed, sweet words of member service and client relations, but behind closed doors will do things such as charge two overdraft fees for one charge, then utilitize verbal gymnastics to explain the situation away to members, members they are all too happy to lose, as their now preferred clientele is A-B range credit risk clients with large deposit accounts. Not to mention vacu touts it's products as superior yet still has some of the weakest deposit products on the market in Virginia.

Pros

Time off (when you can take it), benefits, remote work

Cons

You come into the company full of positive vibes and hearing about how they care about the customer and aren’t like big banks - this is an outright lie. You are trained to push push push loans to an unrealistic monthly standard. Even if a customer has no need for a loan you’re expected to push it on them. Back to back calls, understaffing, incredibly hard to get time off. This job will stress you to the maximum and make you feel like an absolute failure even if your customers feel like you’ve helped them. This bank is quickly turning into places like Wells Fargo
