Pros

Excellent work life balance. My particular boss never enforced a strict schedule and he encouraged me to not work more than I had to. The university also has a very tight-knit atmosphere that bleeds into the work environment and makes working more enjoyable. Since I worked for a small research group I feel like I had a lot of chances to take on more responsibility and grow professionally.

Cons

Lower than average compensation, but that is to be expected in a low cost of living area like Blacksburg. As an employee at VT I worked as a kind of contractor for state agencies. I think there is not as much recognition for that extension side of the university as there is for the research/academia side of the university.

Pros

- easy work - Flexible timing and can work remotely

Cons

- Assigned a deadline of 2 weeks to grade about 72 or 144 assignments. Should have proper time management skills while managing the academics. Although it is easy work.

Pros

The experience was great. The PI was amazing and kind and I learned a lot, definitely would do it again. It yielded great results for me such as publication. I recommend for medical school or graduate school.

Cons

Difficult to justify if you don’t plan to have a research career, graduate or professional school because the pay is lower than other positions available in Blacksburg.
