Pros
They'll throw money at you to stop you from trying to suggest constructive changes (also known as complaining to mid level Senior Business Leaders and Division Heads). Pay and bonuses are excellent just as long as you bend over, not bring up areas that can be improved (also known as 'embarrassment') and do exactly as they say.
Cons
At the 2008 all staff meeting the CEO was not allowed to answer spontaneous employee questions and was instead fed a few questions on slips of paper from a senior exec. At this year's 2009 all staff meeting, spontaneous questions were allowed. When asked if it was senior exec policy to force a distribution of employee ratings for yearly reviews, the CEO said absolutely, "unequivocally" no, it is not Visa policy. About a week later the CEO sent a letter to all employees showing the Visa HR rating distribution "guidance" vs. the actual ratings for this year, indicting that since the actuals were a few percentage points higher than the guidance, what he said at the all staff meeting was true. It makes one wonder what other long term industry practices and fundamentals of operating and managing an organization the CEO does not understand.
