Pros
Great place to work for pre-med/pre-health students looking for experience before med/professional school: - exposure to hospital setting - gain relationships with doctors - exposure to medical terminology - learn in a fast paced environment
Cons
Not all hospital staff are on board with having a scribe in the ER. Sometimes we would have to deal with rude nurses who did not approve of scribes in the hospital rooms given lack of medical training. On the other hand, the doctor you are working with often expects you to be able to do anything a resident can - including touch patient and input orders for them. Both of these things would make our job as a scribe difficult. Other: - Little upward mobility other than becoming head scribe, the idea is that you stick around for a year or two and then move on to medical school
