Pros

Customers, particularly the regulars and some of your coworkers. The lingo for the calling system, which while fun can also be a hindrance, which puts it under 'cons'.

Cons

The lingo. First shift is the training shift, and because it is the busiest shift this can often slow you down when you have a grill operator who is inexperienced or have a trainee serving who is inexperienced. It can be particularly frustrating when you were trying to call orders and spend an i inordinate amount of time trying to get your order placed. This is where the calling system can be an utter burden. Management will often lie to subordinates just to keep them around and can often promote and demote without even telling you. My personal experience is that I have been lied to and abused about my rate of pay, my scheduling, and my hours since day one with this company. Going from store to store, it is one of the most disorganized and inept companies I have ever seen. It shocks me that they actually require a college degree to be a manager for Waffle House when you see just how poorly run this company really is. It would be a perfect candidate for Undercover Boss, but it is abundantly clear that upper management could not possibly care less because they are making very good money when some of their servers are making less than minimum wage. I don't understand how some of these people can sleep at night.

Pros

Solid pay for the industry Okay benefits Employee stock purchase plan Pretty consistent hours The actual work is difficult, but fun after you get good at it. Upward momentum is difficult, but the pay scales very well if you work your way up into management. Prepare for intense work if you do though.

Cons

They hire everyone, and your team will make or break your experience. Genuine safety concerns on 3rd shift. You need to be prepared for people to act out. Senior management only have operation management skills. They are not good "people" managers at all. Only "number" managers.
