Pros

You will have a vacation every 4 months as a manager. They say you receive 2- 7 day vacations and 1- 10 day vacation a year, but that is not accurate, because your normal scheduled 2 days off fall within those time frames. But, still, you do receive 2- 5 day vacations and 1- 8 day vacation a year, so a total of 18 days vacation per year. You must also take into consideration you are on a 6 day rotation instead of a 5 day work week, so you lose additional days here.

Cons

You will work 70+ hrs/wk, and expect to have to pull doubles if your staff calls in. You must work the shift they miss in additional to your normal hours as manager. The only recruiting method you have is yourself. You are expected to recruit all your own associates from customers in the store. You are not allowed to do any outside advertisement, such as a help wanted sign in the window, and they do not advertise they are hiring or accept applications online. Expect to be the Superman of your unit with no Robin.

Pros

Solid pay for the industry Okay benefits Employee stock purchase plan Pretty consistent hours The actual work is difficult, but fun after you get good at it. Upward momentum is difficult, but the pay scales very well if you work your way up into management. Prepare for intense work if you do though.

Cons

They hire everyone, and your team will make or break your experience. Genuine safety concerns on 3rd shift. You need to be prepared for people to act out. Senior management only have operation management skills. They are not good "people" managers at all. Only "number" managers.
