Pros

Working for Wake County Schools has been a very positive experience I have been very fortunate to work in a very good school with wonderful staff, students, and parents. The PTA in this particular school was very supportive of the teachers and school in general. They raised money for needed supplies and school equipment. They organized wonderful monthly teacher appreciation days where we were able to enjoy feasts supplied by parents fit for a king (or queen). Most of the parents were very involved in their students educational experience. Other experiences working at various schools in the county were also positive.

Cons

Budget cuts were an issue as with most other cities across the nation. This caused changes in health care benefits and a reduction in staff in addition to other financial concerns for employees.

Pros

Lengthy time off and decent benefits.

Cons

Very little support. Very challenging students and colleagues. The pay is awful and the state of NC has a very bad situation with its government. Students get away with a lot with no recourse and teachers have too many students in pretty poor working conditions. If I hadn't started teaching decades ago, I wouldn't be doing it. I definitely would not recommend young people to go into this profession in its current iteration.
