Great job, low pay. - Teacher Assistant Wake County Public Schools Employee Review

Pros

After running my own business for 10 years and working for Fortune 500 companies, working as a teacher assistant, I have come to love this job because it is very low stress, very rewarding, and I receive high praises and recognition. Where else can you get paid to cut, color, paint, play at recesses, show kids how to tie there shoes, wipe their noses, and get hugs and love notes left on your desk.

Cons

Working within a government organization where tax dollars pay your salary, you get low pay. Then the school system becomes very regulated. At times you see letters to the editor about what is wrong with the schools, but yet you don't see people like this come in an volunteer or get things going for change.

Pros

Lengthy time off and decent benefits.

Cons

Very little support. Very challenging students and colleagues. The pay is awful and the state of NC has a very bad situation with its government. Students get away with a lot with no recourse and teachers have too many students in pretty poor working conditions. If I hadn't started teaching decades ago, I wouldn't be doing it. I definitely would not recommend young people to go into this profession in its current iteration.
