Pros
1.Wonderful students who come to class eager to learn. 2.The textbooks are provided . 3. Instructors have the suggested curriculum but are free to teach the way they like. 4. No grading (not always good for learning outcomes but easy on a teacher). 5. No homework to check (not always good for learning outcomes good but easy on a teacher).
Cons
It would have been a wonderful place to work if not for the management. ESL department consists of several schools located in Raleigh, Cary, Fuqua Varina, and Garner. Each school has a different supervisor who reports to the Director and Dean. There is a lot of pressure on adjunct instructors to have good enrollment numbers, if numbers are not good, some instructors do not have a job. A couple of supervisors bully the instructors and treat the ESL program as their personal charity. The new director and the dean know about it but only rotate the supervisors from one school to another.
