Pros

Bonus pay*: (this would depend on store and how well they did in sales.)* Flexibility- easy to get approved for days off, great for part-timers who have other responsibilities such as school, "lessons" (of any kind), etc. Good experience, hands-on and you gain transferable skills. Paid for overtime and double overtime. If you're in a department, you get to decide when to go on breaks and lunches (so long as you notify the person in the neighbouring department to cover you). Pizza parties, cook outs ( for having zero accidents at work involving both customers and employees

Cons

Where do I begin... a) Long hours- b) Micro-managers : always behind your back c) Little room for advancement, unless you are management's favourite (at their beck and call and possess the inability to say "no" ) d) Low pay : minimum 20 cents per annual review, maximum 39 cents (because you can never get a 4/5 review; they'll find a way to make you stay within the 3s) e) Customers always get their way; managers worship their feet even if it means that they must humiliate an associate in front of them. f) High turnover of staff g) Little to no recognition h) useless discount card: 10% barely covered taxes. i) Crappy unpaid uniforms ( they make you pay for all black attire or black and white, and don't give you hours to compensate) j) Favouritism: this happens a lot. This is one of the main reasons why people don't get to move around and really showcase their managerial skills and leadership skills. The unqualified ones usually claim the opportunities based off of favouritism.

Pros

Advancement opportunities, great at developing skills, great place to learn a skill and grow your resume, or grow with the company.

Cons

Understaffing issues negatively affects all parts of their business. However, Walmart has increased their minimum hourly rate with hopes to attract more committed employees, and retain better employees.
