Pros

The job is occasionally fun, when you're left alone. Working with different people in the community for donations. The vendors (most of them) are what make the job worth showing up to everyday.

Cons

Management will question what you're doing, misunderstand you even if you explain it like they're 5 and then turn around and pretend what you told them you were doing was their idea all along. It's very weird. Lots of drunks and not very bright people in management positions because they know or date the right people. All of the old "lifers" feed off of drama and will make up things or stab you in the back any chance they get. They also refuse to take direction or tips from anyone newer or younger than them, even if they're new to the department and you're the only one who does things the correct way. Even if you're reliable and great at your job and stay out of drama, you will get pulled into it constantly. Never voice that you love your job, management will put an end to that quick. The people working the backroom are absolute idiots and mess up inventory counts, receivings, paperwork, price changes. It's BAD and they're all so stuck in their own ways that they will not listen to constructive criticism. Management is no help because they don't know how to do any of the backroom jobs, they just guess and train everyone the wrong way and it's a constant cycle. Constant store manager turnover due to MAJOR policy breaking. Sleeping with staff and promoting them was the biggest. They're getting very strict about scheduling, taking away set schedules, not being flexible AT ALL, and they couldn't care less if you have a family emergency, sick kid, or if you're dying in the hospital. Unless of course you're friends with the right people, then your attendance points magically disappear and you're one of the very few who get to work your dream schedule.

Pros

Advancement opportunities, great at developing skills, great place to learn a skill and grow your resume, or grow with the company.

Cons

Understaffing issues negatively affects all parts of their business. However, Walmart has increased their minimum hourly rate with hopes to attract more committed employees, and retain better employees.
