Pros
After ten years in the operational areas of Wellington, my conclusion is the pay is good, the management cares, and it is nice to work for a successful company.
Cons
Once you are in a role, it is rare for you to move. It is a common refrain that people are stuck in their jobs and feel their skills are getting stale (Again this is in non-investment areas: IT, Investment Operations, Finance, etc.) The firm has a culture of expecting you to constantly raise your performance level but it is a vague about how to do that and a good number of people are wondering why they keep being told to step it up but because the firm has a slow to change culture, their attempts to do so are often pushed back on. The firm changed to a less friendly situation during the 2008-2009 downturn and has never gone back so part of their great reputation is outdated.
