Pros
The amount of vacation is great. Work - life balance is good.
Cons
The on-boarding process was lackluster with a lack of training and structure. Procedures for various tasks and processes were almost nonexistent. Management of change was clearly lacking. At WVU, you will have to pay to park in University parking lots as an employee. Almost certainly, most or all corporations see something like parking as a cost of doing business and NOT a stream of revenue – especially from the employees of the company. But that isn’t the case at WVU. In my role, the possibility of advancement is essentially non-existent. I would have to apply for another role within WVU to advance – there are no promotions within one’s existing role even for the best performer. The performance evaluation process is almost nonexistent. There are no specific goals that are set and the evaluation almost seems like an afterthought. It just isn’t emphasized. Don’t expect cost of living increases in this environment of high inflation or even regular raises for high performers. Pay is considerably below market with no bonus structure. Overall, it’s easy to see why WVU has problems with turnover and retaining talent. They just aren’t competitive in the current employment market. WVU is in decline with serious financial difficulties including a large budget deficit. This makes prospects for improvement even less likely.
