Pros
I’ve been at Westat for close to ten years and it’s been a great experience so far. Westat is one of the leading companies in its field and it’s exciting to be at the hub of social sciences research. The company has very collegial culture, probably driven out of the fact that it’s owned by the employees and everyone benefits from each other’s success. This company also has the most diversity of any place I’ve worked. I regularly find myself in meetings where I am the only male in a room of 10 or more women. We have multiple ethnicities, ages, and backgrounds, and it’s a big plus to have the benefit of all those different experiences in our work.
Cons
Westat is in a period of transition right now with a new President (now President and CEO) at the helm, and a fair amount of retirements and new hires at the Practice Director level. Transition naturally brings a lot of changes, and that can be difficult for people to deal with. However, I think most of the changes taking place are for the better, and will make Westat a more competitive and successful company in the future.
