Pros
Job satisfaction depends on the people you work with and the company culture. The pros for WWU for me: I work with GREAT people, I have a fabulous boss, and there is flexibility in my work. All things I value, and have found missing in other places. The benefits are pretty good-- these days, I guess, they're better than average. They have made some recent hires who seem dedicated to moving into the 2000's, which is something.
Cons
It's a large bureaucracy with some calcified people, and a sometimes-repressive company culture that does not value innovation (change) or risk-taking as much as it values status-quo. They want to. But they don't. Things do change, but slowly. Additionally, they pay people much less than other places, because they are banking on the fact that people fall in love with the location and will trade money for quality of life. And that's true. People do make that trade, but positions outside of faculty are overworked, underpaid, and undervalued by the culture as a whole.
