Pros

Large firm with a pretty established client base. Primarily low-margin insurance defense work. Thriving lobbying practice in Albany, New York.

Cons

Very corporate/distant culture. The firm is heavily dependent on a few larger clients, which gives these clients strong leverage to push fees down and keep them low. The firm has reacted by drastically slashing support staff in order to maintain margins for the equity partners. Salaries for support staff, associates, and non-equity partners is below industry averages. This is common for all insurance defense firms, but seems to be more true for WEMED. Do not expect a "career" unless you can tolerate salaries that lag the industry more and more, even as you gain experience.

Pros

Good coworkers and supervisors. Billable work environments tend to be the same in terms of monotony, so it helps to have a good team.

Cons

Billable hours aren't the most fun thing in the world. Huge caseload.
