A bad manager has enough control to give you a bad schedule, approve or not approve time off, shift changes. They can write you up for anything or ignore writing you up if you are their buddy and kiss up to them. Working hard doesn't get you as far as kissing up. Management has worked their way up in the company so essentially they are not trained or educated properly, only hands on which is good but not complete. You can have a manager that didn't see a day of college with a big head and no appreciation for other employees.
