Pros

The World Bank Group (which includes IFC) is the only truly global organization that works on the forefront of several crucial development issues such as climate change, health & education, gender, public sector reforms, private sector development. As such there are no limits to where you can go or what to do, provided that you are patient enough as things are sometimes moving slowly. In addition, regardless of the complaints on this site, the compensation package for full-time staff is outstanding.

Cons

The World Bank is a big bureaucracy. As such, decision making, career progression, etc. are comparatively slow but still much better than at the U.N. or other international organizations.

Pros

Meaningful work with a strong development impact, exposure to complex international investments, intelligent and supportive colleagues, good benefits, and opportunities to work across countries and sectors. The organization also offers a generally respectful and multicultural working environment.

Cons

Career progression can be slow and difficult to navigate, particularly for junior staff. Processes are often bureaucratic, decision-making can take time, and the quality of management and professional development support varies considerably across teams.
