Pros

Great merchandise Casual atmosphere Decent pay Options for advancement

Cons

Too few employees on floor due to lack of available payroll means customers are not served, high shoplifting, managers end up having to load the vast majority of furniture. Very unsafe stock rooms Lack of follow-through from corporate on programs

Pros

My location had a great staff, flexible work hours, and fun environment (until the investment company bought out the World Market company).

Cons

After the investment company bought out the World Market company everything changed. It steadily declined in all the ways that mattered... They just didn't understand how retail works. They would say the staff needed to be more present and make more sales, but then they would cut hours so much that there were not enough employees to do even the minimum required. Often there would be literally only 2 people working - one on the cash register and one to do literally everything else. Then corporate would get upset that customer satisfaction and sales went down. They just don't get how they were related. Pay was laughable, and after all the hours were cut it would be hard to get time off. Employee morale tanked and almost everyone I knew over the years I worked there has since quit. Now it is basically kids fresh out of high school that work and only stay for maybe a year.
