Nice folks, limited delivery opportunity, little cult-like, some areas are a boys club. - Platform Engineer World Wide Technology Employee Review

Pros

There is a strongly engineered culture of inclusivity and saftey, which is pleasent if not a little too disarming for comfort (for me). Good pay and good spirits.

Cons

Things seem to be more about impression management & sales and marketing than actually delivering results under the hood. I've seen engineers promised platform engineering work and ride the bench for over a year, I've seen folks hired for one thing pushed into something completely unrelated. I've seen missed opportunities with brilliant small business owners on contract to deliver PE be pulled out of their own expertise and sent to meetings instead for six months, disrespected completely as an external entity. The hyper scale is killing what was once a great thing. Maybe if sales were rewarded after the job is done it wouldn't be this way but promises continue to be made that are just completely unrealistic, and it probably can't and won't last. The corporate training says verbatim 'we want you to die here' which is genuinely horrific and engineering talent you'd want to work with tends to go elsewhere. Hard to recommend if you're not a sales and marketing professional.

Pros

Remote work was nice. Pay and benefits were decent.

Cons

- Toxic, toxic, toxic - Zero work life balance - Lots of back stabbing going on. Too many management changes. Everyone has to claw for things in a negative way to get anywhere. - Bro culture and a company founder who prays and preaches at company meetings? That should NEVER happen. - No inclusivity. They say DEI is important but when the leaders are praying and seemingly right wing that doesn't reflect. - "Great Place to Work" is a total scam. They basically make you do it, talk about it constantly, remind you to take the surveys, even say how to rate. It's disingenuous. - Over-worked and ran PM's too thin, then when you get too burned out to do your job effectively you're not supported. I was running multiple projects during the day and had another project that required 12 am, 2am meetings as it was an Asian customer. I had no balance, no sleep, zero support. Instead of mitigating it, they wrote me up because I forgot something trivial (so trivial I don't even remember what it was). I was so stressed my hair literally fell out! I was so grateful to have another company headhunt me so that I could quit. TOXIC!
