Pros

WWT has done a tremendous job hiring great people for decades. There is a lot of talk about our culture, and some of it is driven by the core values WWT leadership continues to seek out and develop in their people. However, when you go a layer deeper into what our employees are getting at when they mention our great culture, they are almost always talking about the relationships they have with their peers and leaders in the company. WWT also has great senior leaders and develops good to great leaders all throughout the organization. In my time at WWT, I have reported to 5 different people, and I would only say 1 wasn’t a great leader, and even that person was an average leader. Bad supervisors and managers don’t stick around in their role at WWT for too long. WWT also cares about always making things better operationally, and making life better for their employees. They know there are areas of the business that have been overlooked during the tremendous growth of the company, and the senior leaders of the company have done and are doing a lot to improve those areas. They also try to make WWT an enjoyable place to work out of genuine concern for their employees.

Cons

With that said, compensation has always been a little lower than the industry standard at WWT, and that has definitely been exacerbated in the last year and a half as inflation has spiked heavily. For years, a number of coworkers and I have seen other strong peers leave WWT almost solely because of mediocre compensation. Yet we have decided to stay because we love the people we work with, believe our leadership is for us, and have a lot of opportunity to shine at WWT. But now, what has generally been a small sacrifice in pay over the years to work at a job one enjoys, has become a large gap in pay (especially considering many of our friends and coworkers have resigned their jobs in the last year and received major jumps in pay). In fact, I have been given promotions, or applied for and was hired into promotions roughly every other year I’ve been at WWT, and only 1 of those times would my raise in compensation have matched the increase in inflation we have seen over the last year. It saddens me to say it, because I really do like WWT, but it has gotten to the point that I can’t afford to continue to spend my prime sacrificing pay for culture, especially considering there are other companies (even in our very own industry) that have strong workplace cultures and strong compensation packages as well. And I’m not the only one in my position, or like positions who has started putting real effort into looking into outside opportunities.

Thank you for your very kind and supportive comments of WWT and our culture. It’s clear you care about the organization and your coworkers. Inflation can be harmful and it’s an important factor when considering all WWT’s total rewards especially compensation. WWT takes a rigorous approach when evaluating pay and benefits including during times of high inflation. Our team purchases current market data which is derived from three separate professional organizations to ensure we are always providing competitive pay and benefits. Thanks again for sharing your concerns which we will share with our executive team.

Pros

My manager was very supportive she would give great feedback and try to help me grow . The people were awesome. My coworkers were great and supportive.

Cons

For all the projects we had regional managers there was one that had it out for me. This person was relentless and I went to my manager. The problem I had with this person was they never stop coming after me and my manager tried to stop this person in their tracks, but they tried a way to come after me. My manager’s manager was kind of not a good manager because he was all about the numbers and he didn’t care about the person. He never once had a one-to-one conversation with me I noticed that he played favorites with people and it’s just not good to do that. I believe that as a senior manager, you have to get to know your team instead of hearing what other people say. There was a senior project manager out there who essentially threw me under the bus. When people would resign, all of the projects that were left behind by the previous person they would dump it on one person. It is a lot of work to dump on a person. Some managers would help you grow and there are others that will do the work behind your back on a project. There was one who would start adjusting my project numbers and get mad at me. Mind you this was my first year and this manager would throw me under the bus. “Great Workplace?” Please
