There's a tendency for management to take the humanity out of attaining quota by imposing unnecessary benchmarks for call/email activities at ridiculous times of the year (like the day before Thanksgiving and the week before New Years). It's one thing to hold folks accountable for a quota throughout the year, but you have to understand the cycles of business. Companies aren't open and picking up cold calls the week before New Years and at other points around holidays throughout the year because they shut down in order to save money. Why, then, am I calling into a closed business?
