Pros

Disclaimer: Xero is an amazing company to work for. It grew up from a small startup into a real corporation, and that probably explains both pros and cons. You should also keep in mind there will be differences depending on the team, as it's hardly possible to have the same experience everywhere in a big company. - Good culture. People are friendly, help and fair conversations are encouraged on every level, management takes feedback nicely. Teams having lunches and activities together. - Good work-life balance. Your time is appreciated and no bad practices like overtiming or micromanagement are used. It's usually easy to arrange things flexibly if needed. - Plenty of technical challenges. It's usually encouraged to take your time to pursue your own goals or pay technical debt. - Some opportunities for career growth and relocation. - Fair pay for NZ market + good shares package. - Extra leave during Christmas time. - Decent parental support.

Cons

- Career progression was not very clear for long time. It's getting better now, but there are still a lot of things to improve. - Unclear payment ranges and promotion. There was a formal system, but it wasn't possible to understand the decisions or how to follow it. It's getting better as well. - A bit outdated tech stack in some areas. - As company grows there are more and more middle management. Sometimes it is unclear what their responsibilities are.

Pros

Xero has a great product and a lot of very passionate employees who work very hard for their customers.

Cons

The executive leadership at Xero is creating a toxic, backstabbing culture that promotes yes-men at the expense of honest dialogue. It's impossible to make decisions at the company, and multiple rounds of layoffs are leaving all employees shell shocked and fearful. Marketing teams are under-resourced while more demands are constantly being placed on teams to do more. When constraints are communicated, employees are blamed for them, rather that listened to. Multiple colleagues have said the same thing. Additionally, management has instituted a 'rank and yank' policy where everyone is graded on a forced curve, where the bottom quarter are immediately put on a PIP.
