Pros

Really good free food and snacks in multiple buildings. Snacks on every floor. Good 401k match. Hack Days and CEO/CFO challenges encourage creativity. On-site gym or stipend. Flexible hours. Free smart phone (multiple options) or a stipend for personal phone. Most of the company has migrated to Mac Books. Great GSD (global support desk) team and center. Space is set up like a mobile store with the phone and laptop options on display.

Cons

Morale down in 2016 since the layoffs which were followed by a lot of turnover, leaving us short and struggling to hire to fill the positions they wanted to keep. Future uncertain with the pending Verizon buyout. Bonus payouts in 2016 were horrible. The calculation was changed without telling the employees. Was based in the mean of the job level rarher than actual salary. Someone at the high end of this job level may have been paid a bonus on a salary $40,000 less than theirs. Some people got RSUs but not everyone. Saw a 5% increase in salary with a promotion; no other raises in four year tenure. Have heard stories of Yahoo offers to new employees being turned down due to salaries lower than area average. Turnover continues to be high and reorganizations frequent.

Pros

Relatively easy to get things done for a company with such a long history. Certainly not "start up" like, but processes like resource allocation have less overhead than working at a company like Google. Pay was pretty good for the midwest. I hear they are currently pretty open to remote work. It's also not the hardest place to work.

Cons

Opportunities are limited in software engineering. Since Apollo took over, SE was viewed mostly under the lens of "what is the least we can invest here to get the job done". There used to be a really good office in Champaign with lots of very talented software engineers put together. That's gone now.
