Pros

In CU area Yahoo is one of the better option for software development. All at site enjoy work and $$s.

Cons

Subtle level politics to keep favorite people (read "yes sir/madam") around by shuffling them around to different roles or teams. Good engineers who disagree have been let go using HR designed performance tools. Managers here define their own version of Yahoo way/culture to justify their deplorable actions.

Pros

Relatively easy to get things done for a company with such a long history. Certainly not "start up" like, but processes like resource allocation have less overhead than working at a company like Google. Pay was pretty good for the midwest. I hear they are currently pretty open to remote work. It's also not the hardest place to work.

Cons

Opportunities are limited in software engineering. Since Apollo took over, SE was viewed mostly under the lens of "what is the least we can invest here to get the job done". There used to be a really good office in Champaign with lots of very talented software engineers put together. That's gone now.
