Pros

Legacy culture based on Aol and Yahoo provides a casual professional atmosphere where results are a key focus. The company supports communities in which it is located, and provides employees opportunities to give back to those communities. The pay and benefits are competitive. There was free lunch available every weekday in the cafeteria.

Cons

At the time I left the Verizon culture was seeping in providing a more buttoned down and formal feel. The combination of Aol, Yahoo, and DMS could have been better handled.

Pros

Relatively easy to get things done for a company with such a long history. Certainly not "start up" like, but processes like resource allocation have less overhead than working at a company like Google. Pay was pretty good for the midwest. I hear they are currently pretty open to remote work. It's also not the hardest place to work.

Cons

Opportunities are limited in software engineering. Since Apollo took over, SE was viewed mostly under the lens of "what is the least we can invest here to get the job done". There used to be a really good office in Champaign with lots of very talented software engineers put together. That's gone now.
