Pros

Compensation and opportunity to move within the company to different projects that interest you is really good. You'll meet lots of smart people in your time with the company. Many classes offered and lectures you can attend to improve your skills.

Cons

Ideas from within Yahoo are not really valued. Constantly playing catch up with small companies when they should be leading the way exploring new and interesting products given the engineering talent available. A little heavy on the process side which makes the company slow to move.

Pros

Relatively easy to get things done for a company with such a long history. Certainly not "start up" like, but processes like resource allocation have less overhead than working at a company like Google. Pay was pretty good for the midwest. I hear they are currently pretty open to remote work. It's also not the hardest place to work.

Cons

Opportunities are limited in software engineering. Since Apollo took over, SE was viewed mostly under the lens of "what is the least we can invest here to get the job done". There used to be a really good office in Champaign with lots of very talented software engineers put together. That's gone now.
