Pros

The Company has a lot of heart. People who have been there a long time are loyal and motivated for it to succeed more because of their history with the company. The Company's products are wonderful (apps, digital magazines, website) but they don't put much thought into marketing what's working--they continue to market the "same ol same ol" so unfortunately, most of the world isn't aware that the digital magazines exist, which is a waste.

Cons

--Marissa makes all decisions (the good, the bad and the ugly) with very little input from her leadership staff --HR is a complete mess (little to no strategy, constantly restructuring support functions, constant management churn) --Its exhausting to work for Yahoo. It starts out seeming like an adventure, and then by the time you're in the thick of it and you're invested, you start to notice your opinion doesn't matter, your input doesn't matter, they'll never change, and the way they are is how they'll always be.

Pros

Relatively easy to get things done for a company with such a long history. Certainly not "start up" like, but processes like resource allocation have less overhead than working at a company like Google. Pay was pretty good for the midwest. I hear they are currently pretty open to remote work. It's also not the hardest place to work.

Cons

Opportunities are limited in software engineering. Since Apollo took over, SE was viewed mostly under the lens of "what is the least we can invest here to get the job done". There used to be a really good office in Champaign with lots of very talented software engineers put together. That's gone now.
