Pros
The pay is about a year behind the NIH fellowship. The cost of living is lower than comparable institutions. The Yale Health plan is fantastic. You can contribute to regular and Roth 403b plans, but there is no matching for post docs. There are other tax deferred benefits for dependent care, commuting, etc. ,but you will loose access to these the years that you have a fellowship. They are expanding their career services programs for postdocs and graduate students.
Cons
If you get a fellowship you will loose access to all of your benefits other than health insurance, but this is standard at just about any institution.
