Pros

The people you work with are THE BEST. The benefits are A1. The culture is amazing. The support system is always there. The perks are great too, all based on getting to know your manager and team members better and better.

Cons

Imagine this. You wake up every single week day from 8-5pm you make a 80-100 calls to people who doesn’t want to hear from you. You’ll talk to about 6-8 people put of the minimum 80 people you call. 4 of them are annoyed because they’ve already talked to someone from Yelp, the next 2 hate you and let you know and then the last 2 you have a 50/50 shot of them having the time to hear you out and theres a .10% the person who heard you out will actually believe in what you’re selling. Even if you’ve spoken to the business owner and they’ve heard the entire shpeel they make you call and follow up with them an additional 4 times. I almost went crazy, but no where near as crazy as the person who threatened to bring a gun to work and harm those around him because the work was so mentally draining and discouraging. I would only recommend this job as a resume builder but nothing more. TRUST ME, IF YOU HAVE A COLLEGE DEGREE YOU CAN DO BETTER

Yelp Response
7y
Thank you for your candid feedback. We definitely hire great people, creating a culture that makes Yelp a great place to work. We’re so glad that you were able experience it. Our managers are extremely supportive of their teams, and since they’ve done the job as individual contributors, they can relate to our sales reps’ daily challenges. Your feedback on the emotional challenges of the sales role is appreciated. We realize that the sales role is demanding, and we’ve created tools and resources to help our employees’ long term success. Among those resources is an employee assistance program to help those who need emotional support. We encourage our employees to use it and continue any services through our medical insurance plans.

Pros

Supportive management-My manager is amazing and truly cares about my personal and professional growth. Career development- I love the position I am in, but have been encouraged for others. Yelp offers great opportunities to advance, explore new roles and develop new skills if that's the direction you want. Work life balance-10/10. As a mom of 3, I feel empowered to balance my family responsibilities and career and Yelp does just that. Inclusivity and culture- Yelp’s commitment to belonging and inclusivity is real, I’ve always felt valued here. I love my team so much. Flexibility- Movement between roles and growth are genuinely supported. Working from home also helps a lot with flexibility. Employee recognition-Hard work is acknowledged and celebrated daily.

Cons

Large company changes- Like any sizable company, occasional shifts or leadership changes mean adapting to new processes. Remote work challenges- Not unique to Yelp, but staying connected with coworkers virtually can take extra effort. Compensation-Base is very low compared to a lot of other tech companies, but again you put the work in and it all evens out.
