Pros
Transparent culture - Dan and senior managers promote a lot of transparency in communication and direction. This is a big positive. Flat organization - The anti-telecom management model - it's great! Excellent access to capital - I've never seen anything like it - market opportunity + access to capital + ability to execute can = an amazing company! Streamlined process to approve projects - Zayo is excellent at getting projects approved - some with some very big dollar amounts behind them. Powerful implementation of Salesforce.com - Great vision and execution behind this Lack of office politics - I may be out of the loop or people may be too busy to care, but my impression is a straightforward office environment. Visionary CEO - Dan is a unique leader with a solid vision for the future. I'm proud to work alongside him and the rest of the team Equity program - Very progressive equity program that could/should yield great compensation opportunities for the employees.
Cons
Bonus program - I like the quarterly program, but the goals aren't realistic and the scoring feels totally arbitrary. To fight the goals offered could be similar to beating your head against a wall. Are MattCo or ChrisCo in good moods when bonuses are reviewed? Better hope so. Also the requirement that half the team needs to be above the bonus % average and half the team be below is very demotivating. Want to build good teams? Get rid of this and let managers make the recommendations - they are closest to the effort and situation. 'Near-term' compensation - It's simply low - across groups and disciplines. I still work at Zayo based on the expected benefits of the equity program referenced above, but if the equity train dries up, so too will my time at Zayo. 401(k) matching - there is none and near-term comp isn't adjusted upwards to reflect the lack of this fairly-standard benefit Rotational employees - I like the concept of formal or even informal rotations, but the frequency is too fast and it simply creates a burden on managers to constantly re-teach employees over and over without reaping any benefits of efficiency or consistency
