Pros

There are two types of people at Zayo... The amazing people who rise up through the ranks at Zayo, who are great at what they do, and are great managers. There are also a lot of career advancement opportunities at Zayo, but these completely depend on how well like you are by leadership.

Cons

The second type of people at Zayo are those who rise up the ranks by taking credit for other's people's work, try to push people out of the company to take their jobs, and throw people under the bus. You'll find these people throughout the organization. Leadership leads through fear and is terrible at communicating. There are tough situations that routinely come up that they refuse to address. Layoffs impacting hundreds of employees happen without a word to the rest of the organization because the CFO feels its better to bury than to address it head on. Re-orgs and leadership leaving the company also love to be swept under the rug. Compensation is pathetic. It may seem like it has opportunity for those outside of the company, but bonus payouts are regularly 40% of the target or less because the company continues to fail at reaching its growth targets. As a result, while I was at Zayo I was routinely doing more and more work for less and less money. The stock component was created by Dan to retain talent. What really happened was high-performers knew they could make more money elsewhere so they would leave the company and what you have left are low performers who want to fly under the radar and stick around while their stock vests every quarter. The CEO, CFO and COO are toxic leaders who are terrible at execution, which is why they continue to fail at growing the business. Priorities shift on a whim with no context given, orgs changes happen routinely every 6 months (again something they like to bury).

Pros

Excellent sales enablement, tools, and internal support. Leadership has done a good job creating an environment where Enterprise Account Executives can focus on selling instead of getting bogged down by administrative tasks. CRM data is clean, processes are organized, and responsibilities between Sales, Customer Success, and Account Management are clearly defined. It’s refreshing to work for a company that invests in the systems and structure needed to help its sales teams succeed.

Cons

Ongoing integration efforts following the Crown Castle Fiber acquisition mean some processes and systems are still evolving. As with most enterprise sales roles, building pipeline requires significant self-sourcing and prospecting across a large territory. The product portfolio is extensive, which creates a bit of a learning curve for new hires but also provides opportunities to solve complex customer challenges.
