Pros

Great people, ever challenging work load, and ability to grow several hats from a single position. You get a bonus, but based off overall performance.. So Pro & Con, as it is nice, but you can work very hard and get next to nothing.. Benefits have been great for Medical, Dental, and LIfe..

Cons

Salary is not close to Median on Salary.com.. Most are underpaid for experience, and took major pay cuts to seek opportunity with Zayo at startup. Many have been with the company 3 - 5 years and have never received a raise, review, or any personal incentive.. As the company grows and grows, and employees see the company doing better. We all know it is the sweat and dedication to our work that has gotten Zayo to where it is. Especially the originals who have been here for 4+ years who held this place together through acquisitions. Moral is at a all time low due to no incentives or raises being offered to them for their dedication. Seems everyone in the company is just waiting for a good opportunity to leave. However, like most, a lot of folks took a risk on Zayo taking pay cuts, and now are in a bind trying to find a position to at least get them to their old Salary. Hard work deserves payment in the form of salary, that can be seen on a paycheck week to week.. Cost of living has doubled for most since coming on with Zayo, as well as workload, but salaries have not moved. Company use to be more dedicated to allowing employees more room to get things done.. However, has turned into an internal CYA, as many executives have no background in Telecom. So leaves the experienced employees vulnerable, and feeling as they have no where to turn. Processes are always being changed, and most are not broken, just not enforced.. Further making employees trying to follow them paranoid they might do something wrong. Where as before, we did what we had to in order to get things done, which made it exciting to push those envelopes. Now we file the envelope, so that it doesn't ever get touched, much less pushed.. What could be done in 3 days, now take 3 weeks, due to no one wanting to get in trouble. Again mostly due to lack of confidence that their executives would even understand why they did what they did, so feeling they would just been thrown under the bus.. My experience has shown me most of the VP & SVP's are scared to tell the CEO anything, in fear they will be questioned. Since they have little knowledge in the groups they are over, they spend tons of time trying to understand things, which further push groups behind explaining their jobs to their bosses.. Work load is ridiculously heavy, head count takes so long to get approved, and requires enormous amounts of data to even get considered. That if you do actually get lucky enough to get some headcount, you already need more, as that is about a year turn around.. Since most of the executives have no idea what it actually takes to do the work, they feel everything is due to lack of output. Those executives that do understand the work required, are the only two that I feel anyone truly respects. As they seem to be the only ones who can relate and understand true amount of effort required to get through task on a project.. The rest have no experience in the fields they are over, and therefore no ability to comprehend true work load. Although they do quickly with their 10 minutes of experience, tell you how wrong you have been doing it the last 20 years.. .

Zayo Response

Thanks for the post. You cover a wide ground, so I can only touch on a few points in the response. Processes, data accuracy, and automation are the key toward efficient work flow, fulfilling work environment, and strong service to customers. We have been emphasizing the need to tighten processes and data -- and this requires an emphasis on education and enforcement of workflow. Through Tranzact and data/process discipline, we are getting work done in a fraction of the time (hours) it was otherwise taking (days or weeks). I'd be interested in understanding better your vantage point of 3 days moving to 3 weeks -- to the extent you can find a way to share it with me, let me know. I am proud of the entirety of the Zayo team. We are blending been-there done-that veterans with up-and-comers. We primarily promote from within -- I recognize you don't agree with who has gotten promoted, but the promote-from-within is undeniable. Our proactiveness to provide opportunities for relatively recent graduates is not to save money -- it is to blend talent pools and work experiences. I think our VP and SVPs are the strongest in the industry. I'm truly am sorry you don't share this view. I appreciate you having been with us so long, and am sure you've contributed much to our success. We have done our best to share equity widely -- more than 40% of employees have equity. Bonus, though 50% last quarter, have averaged over 100% over the many quarters the program has been in effect, including the past year. Raises are giving frequently. I agree we do not spend enough time acknowledging the fine work of our people. This needs to change. Also, improving workload balance in those areas that remain stressed needs to be a priority. Feel free to reach out to me to discuss.

Pros

Excellent sales enablement, tools, and internal support. Leadership has done a good job creating an environment where Enterprise Account Executives can focus on selling instead of getting bogged down by administrative tasks. CRM data is clean, processes are organized, and responsibilities between Sales, Customer Success, and Account Management are clearly defined. It’s refreshing to work for a company that invests in the systems and structure needed to help its sales teams succeed.

Cons

Ongoing integration efforts following the Crown Castle Fiber acquisition mean some processes and systems are still evolving. As with most enterprise sales roles, building pipeline requires significant self-sourcing and prospecting across a large territory. The product portfolio is extensive, which creates a bit of a learning curve for new hires but also provides opportunities to solve complex customer challenges.
