Pros

Motion control component company manufacturing parts, sub-assemblies, and units in the power transmission industry across a wide variety of industries, with a high degree of knowledge, emphasis on precision and quality, customer-specified customization, and ability to get propriety customer-specified design variations quickly to production. Working atmosphere encouraged self pacing, open communication, a great degree of independence in personal working schedule without losing focus on the bottom line. Advancement of personal career was encouraged and plenty of room for upward movement was provided.

Cons

Company was one of the best places to work until a recent change of senior management brought about mass retirements, several firings and layoffs, high production and engineering turnover rates, a diminishing of Engineering department down to two individuals, creation of engineering department director, and a company-wide installation of a highly micro-managing business model that emphasizes performance metrics above any former employee loyalty. The business-wide changes came fast and chaotically, many poor and inneficient business process desicions were made without regard, and with new management a general resentment of former working processes and methods deeply set in. Constant change and instability became the new normal. Atmosphere at the business suffered immensely and senior management created and generated a toxic and oppressive working environment. Outside consultant firm was hired to analyze working environment dissatisfaction and found the source of the dissatisfaction and friction to be management. Company events, celebrations, morale boosters were subsequently created by a committee but the result did not address the corporate-wide business model as being the root of the dissatisfaction. Most former professionals who occupied various departments retired, were forcibly removed, or resigned due to incompatibility and disagreement with new management goals and company model. The turnover rates continued to be high until a high percentage of company staff was all new.
