Pros

Overall company culture is good in terms of work events, parties, etc

Cons

One random day, I was let go from the company without any explanation or warning as to why. I was a happy, positive, dedicated worker who got along with everyone in the team. If there was a major issue with my performance, it should be have been brought up before but it wasnt . Any feedback given to me during the duration of my work at the company I accepted happily and worked towards fixing it....Without been given an obvious reason for being let go, it feels like there was a bias in place for women in effect here as i was the only women on the team. The environment on the team never fostered 'learning' for me..i was pretty much discouraged to ask any questions by my manager. From the first day i started in the role, there was a female bias already in place which is unfortunate for an otherwise great compnay. I liked Zillow as a company and have always rooted for their success. I am disappointed that they have treated me this way. So i let this serve as a warning for all women entering a product development role at Zillow, based on my experience here.

I am sorry things didn't work out for you. We value all employees, including women, and we have been improving the diversity of the team, though we want to see more progress within Zillow and throughout Seattle. In that vein, we are supporting several women in tech organizations such as the Ada Developers Academy, UW Society of Women Engineers, Women in Tech, Geek Girls, and Women Who Code. In any case, thank you for your feedback as we strive to be a quality organization and learn from these experiences. I wish you luck in your future endeavors. - David Beitel CTO, Zillow.com

Pros

You can make good money here.

Cons

In sales, job can change often. For example: I was making good money and excelling because I am a relationship Sales person. Then they changed it to where you get the sale, and instead of being able to grow that account via that relationship you just broke into, you have to pass it to an account manager and go back to cold/robo calling. You "book" of business you recive to prospect from is a lottery. I received a book of prospects/accounts that most of the were low income, or senior living properties. They don't have a budget and have a line of renter on a waitlist. No way to convince them to spend money on advertising but you still have the same quota.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed perspective. We understand that frequent changes to roles, account ownership and business priorities can have a real impact on relationship-building and the day-to-day experience in sales. We’re glad to hear compensation was a positive part of your time at Zillow, and we appreciate you being candid about where the model and structure felt frustrating. Feedback like yours helps us better understand how these changes are experienced across teams as the business evolves.
