Pros

I enjoyed working at Zirtual because it was remote, and there was a solid support system in place of "pods" who were there to simulate an office environment. The culture and values are what drew me to Zirtual, and kept me there long after the point where I should have recognized that the company did NOT operate by them.

Cons

They laid off 400+ people (including me) with an email at 1:30am on Monday morning. All of our emails and systems were blocked, so we were unable to recover any information. Our insurance had not been paid for the month (even though it was taken out of our paychecks) so we were all without insurance, and if we'd gone to the doctor in the past 10 days, learned it would now be coming out of our own pockets. Leadership repeatedly lied about the state of the company, made selfish decisions that hurt their employees, and made a shady deal to revert back to independent contractors by laying off all their employees. As employees, there were some opportunities for growth within the company, but with the independent contractor set up, you are 100% better off just setting up your own business.

Pros

Zirtual now includes Double, Virtual Gurus, Delegated, and Del Trust. We are under the umbrella of PennSpring Capital so this cash cow is not going anywhere.

Cons

They take 50% of the client's fee; we pay a 30% Federal tax + State tax on the remainder, in addition to sourcing our own software and equipment. They say we can turn down client offers BUT they rarely send clients since the acquisitions. When they do, it is hard not to accept because it could be months before they send another. Management says, "we are waiting for a client that matches you." Meanwhile, they continue to hire new Virtual Assistants. Team meetings now include a justification for continued hired despite the massive under use of our existing team. When I started, I earned 3x times more than what I am making now. I can tell you from experience, it is really hard to plan meals for someone when you are starving.
