Pros
The company has a good focus on the future of veterinary medicine. They seek out cutting edge technologies and put a ton of effort into research. I have been very proud of the products we have brought to market. Teammates in various divisions truly support each other and become like family. Not all divisions, but many of them. It’s a great feeling to know that your colleagues have your back.
Cons
Similar to other industry employers, the stock price is the key indicator of upper management’s current mood. If it dips, prepare for budget cuts regardless of profitability. In addition, the pay scale for various positions is not commensurate with your degree, level of experience, nor the inherent stress and time commitment of your position. My advice is to go for positions that are part of revenue generation versus internal support roles. The base pay and bonuses are higher. Those who stay in positions for less than three years move laterally or vertically with ease. If you are dedicated to one division for more than four years, you are unlikely to be offered positions in other divisions in the future.
