Pros
The best part of working at Zymergen is the coworkers you will have. Everyone I worked with on a daily basis were amazing people. People are very supportive and willing to help you if you need it. Free snacks are pretty awesome too.
Cons
For the first few years I worked there the contracts coming in from the busniess team were a joke. They had such tight, almost unmanageable deadlines. It seemed like no one consulted a scientist to see how long work would actually take, causing a lot of stress to be placed on the research teams to meet the deadlines (which often did not happen). There is no good training for managers so there is a good chance you will end up with a manager who is not very good, or who only cares about the company but not the employee. I was hired to work with a specific type of research, which is the reason I took the job, but then when I was hired I never got a chance to work on it at all. Research associates were often left out of important meetins regarding work to do with their projects. Even when they had more knowledge and experience that the Scientists on that particular work.
