Pros

Hybrid remote work Good co-workers

Cons

If this is your first job out of college or as a working adult, the Underwriting department here is a decent place to start. If you are seeking a career or long-term opportunity for growth in the industry, look elsewhere. The average lifespan of an underwriter at biBerk is about two years. Much of that is due to the fact that you gradually come to the realization that what you begin with is all there really is. Amongst the employees, you will see the majority have been with the company less than a year and the rest have been there for seven to eight years. There is very little middle ground, which speaks to the reality of high turnover. The pay is well below industry average and promotions are based on years with the company. Merit is not a factor in any capacity. There is a prideful insistence on utilizing broken software systems, making you work every day with one arm tied behind your back. In addition, the faulty systems open the company up to audits and severe penalties from the Department of Insurance. The leadership in the Underwriting department has built a culture of poor communication, favoritism, unethical behavior and preferential treatment. The six or seven individuals who have found favor with leadership will be protected at all costs and the rest who simply do good work will be ignored and dismissed. The trajectory of the Underwriting department has fallen considerably in just a few short years. Many high-quality employees have left due to the failing culture, and that falls squarely on leadership.
