Pros

Despite current market pessimism bringing down oil prices the overall position of the oil & gas industry is solid and thereby a good place to set a career. BP like all oil & gas majors has to enlarge ot maintain their global reserves in both oil and gas. Doing so brings in it's train development projects world wide that provide great opportunities to the managers and engineers with the ideas that will introduce the innovations that provide greater efficiency in finding and producing oil or gas. An engineer can find management opportunities in a fast moving project world of oil & gas that will become a very fulfilling career.

Cons

The volatility of the global oil price market makes the career structure prone to peaks and troughs that come with market price highs and lows.. The perennial problem of project costs drives the oil company to seek efficiency in the costs of management and people thus introducing insecurity in any tenure in the energy industry. Start as lean as can be sustained and stay lean thus avoiding insecurity in management teams

Pros

Supportive team environment with good learning opportunities and exposure to large-scale projects. Compensation and benefits are competitive, and the company offers strong brand recognition and career development resources.

Cons

Decision-making can be slow due to layers of management, and processes sometimes feel overly bureaucratic. Workload and priorities can shift quickly, which may create stress depending on the team.
