Pros

-You can move within Amazon if you want - Great healthcare (c/o Amazon) -Teams generally have a positive "we are all in this together" attitude, even when things are crazy. So camaraderie is one reason I stayed for so long (more than 3 years). People make a real effort to work together to make things happen, even if there are lots of technical/managerial roadblocks

Cons

-Management is still going through lots of course changes even though the Amazon merger is years old at this point. This provides a pretty unstable working environment and it's hard to succeed when the focus of your department is redirecting every 3 months. It's also just exhausting and not in that "we're a start up and all hands on deck" (aka productive) kind of way. - Culture and values are great on paper but not consistent in practice

Pros

I got to meet a lot of cool interesting, nerdy comic book folx. A lot of my co-workers were part of the LGBTQ community, which helps. People are generally happy to help each other, if they can.

Cons

Almost everything else. I worked 50-60+ hours for 10 years and got passed over for opportunities and promotions over and over again. I had 8 bosses in 10 years, so it was hard to get any traction if you wanted to do anything else with your career, Unless you sucked up to management or just had some genius level learning aptitude. (By the way, it's not a great place for people with disabilities either). I had so much more I could have offered the company, but they really didn't care. It was a boring, soul-sucking, draining job and now that I've been laid off, it's been really hard finding employment again. Yes, I'm a very bitter ex-Amazon employee. You might say, "why didn't you just leave before?" Well, good question. I tried with no success.
