Pros

eBay and its employees encourage each individual to think of improvements and innovations on the product to make it a better experience for the customer. Regardless of what team you are on, from engineering to finance to audit, there is always someone willing to hear you out on an idea and if it has merit to it, directors are more than happy to listen and even push some of these ideas further up. This open mindset fosters imagination and ensures that people's voices will be heard. In tandem with the open mindset, the culture at eBay is very diverse and super friendly. They emphasize that work is a TEAM game not just an individual one, which makes it not only fun when you work with others but also more productive. Technology, applications and other software tools used at the company are always improving and for the most part utilize the latest resources available. This especially appeals to the younger population who come out of school learning with a skillset using particular tools or programming languages. Great company with initiatives to improve the platform in the future through the use of enhanced technological innovations.

Cons

Some processes (very few in my experience) leverage tools/programs that are a bit older, however a lot of these processes are being uplifted

Pros

Challenging work, great company culture. There is something genuinely motivating about building for a brand that everyone knows and uses: the scale and real-world stakes make the work feel meaningful. The AI work specifically is at the frontier of applied AI: production systems, hard problems in agentic workflows and evaluation, and real customer impact. Good work-life balance. Leadership is more engaged and technically credible than I expected from a company this size — when I built a prototype, senior stakeholders engaged substantively and supported continued investment quickly. Competitive compensation, sharp colleagues, and a well-sized Austin office with a focused, collaborative feel.

Cons

Like any tech company, there is some legacy code to deal with which can cause friction. That said, eBay has made meaningful progress on modernizing the tech stack and has genuinely embraced the latest tools: AI development here uses current frameworks and infrastructure, not decade-old patterns. Large company coordination processes (security reviews, cross-team alignment) can slow things that could move faster, and vendor partnerships add some communication overhead. But the reach of what you build makes it worth the extra overhead.
