Pros
Great office and work building Has potential
Cons
I really wanted to love it here, I was super excited to start working here because I've heard great things, and its constantly voted as one of the best places to work, but from day 1 I was disappointed. The company lacks a lot of depth and attention to detail, during our orientation we weren't really given much instruction on how to set up our emails/calendars etc...and we weren't even told whether we get a lunch or not. Those seem like smalls things but they really set the tone for an anxious new hire. The onboarding training was also a 90 day process but with 0 hands on experience/shadowing before transitioning into your role. There is no clear focus or direction in setting up a new hire for success. It seems like the only competency that they focus on out of the 8 that is part of the culture is adaptability; and this is typically because the company cant focus on one goal at a time so its a strongly overused competency, almost like a crutch. I cant tell you how many times the company has shifted its focus just in the year that I've been there. You walk out of most meetings feeling like you didn't understand the point of it, and having no concept to grasp onto. And then they encourage everyone to "fake it till you make it", but that just creates an environment where people aren't allowed to be vulnerable, and it makes it hard to tell others that you "don't understand what's going on". I walked into the office everyday feeling like I was the only one who didn't have a clear understanding of my role and duties. Come to find out as time went on, that no one understands the objectives of their role; it was genuinely a hot mess working there. People there are nice, civil, and always willing to help, but also lack depth, creativity, and passion. They make you take a personality assessment as part of your interviewing process, and I think this leads to them hiring the same type of people. There weren't enough quirky, creative, innovative people working there; I wanted to be inspired by the people I talk to, but a lot of them were your stereotypical corporate drones. And I cant tell if it was genuinely the people, or that the company didn't encourage out of the box thinking. Not to mention, my floor lacked diversity, most people of color were on a different floor and it was mainly the labs team. Working there was kind of a traumatizing experience, I kept pushing through because I wanted to love it, and I understand in comparison to a lot of corporate jobs it may be a lot better, but it doesn't meet my standards of a great company. I also really felt the passion, and drive from Colin Day, but I felt like his direct subordinates didn't match his energy; and I felt like most managers didn't match his energy. It truly is a shame because he envisioned an incredible software and made it come to life. I would really hate for things to start going down hill because of their shift of focus, or should I say lack of focus.
