Pros
An amazing company to work at if you've got low self esteem, enjoy being mismanaged, have no social life or personal expenses, and an overall desire to develop some sort of professional version of "battered wives syndrome." Bonus if you love being blatantly lied to, disrespected, and have constant cravings to feel irrelevant and voiceless.
Cons
If you desperately need a job, just stick it out; this place isn't worth it and will leave you battered and bruised in the long run. Much like dealing with Delta or Verizon, mOcean will leave you with feelings of bewilderment, rage, inadequacy, depression, and overall contempt. I dealt with the abuse for over 5 years, which was way too long. I’d rather attend a Nickelback concert, or invite a spider to lay eggs inside my ear, than to step inside mOcean’s doors again. The only genius of upper management, is breaking you down to the point in which you’re going to crack, then buying you flowers and saying the right apologetic words, convincing you to stay somehow, and repeating the cycle. These guys (and girl) are so far up their holes, I’m positive that George “Double-Ya” Bush could solve the ISIS crisis more logically and efficiently than these clowns could organize a production meeting. There is no communication, and the higher ups make ignorant decisions behind closed doors, on issues they have no business having input on, considering they are so far removed from day-to-day work. The President, who so endearingly calls himself “The Skipper” (Get it? A nautical theme!!) struts around in flip flops and blousey pirate-esque button-ups with a glazed over look in his eyes while sucking on a spoon of peanut butter (he prefers extra chunky). When employees try to enlighten him on issues with his business, good or bad, they are most likely to be met with some sort of nonchalant, too-cool-for-school response, expressing his disinterest in business. Hey, it’s just “not his thing.” I get it… but it’s ironic, considering it is his business, and the rate things are going over there, he may not have one for very long. I think they’ve had about 50 layoffs in the past couple of months. In the time I served at mOcean, I worked with a number of very talented people. The classic approach to handle said talent, was to “manage them” to ensure they do not become a threat to the insecurities of upper management, rather than celebrate and promote their success to sell more work. This approach has left them with very little talent left, and I’d be surprised to see them succeed going forward. It’s a couple of children trying to run a grown up business, which is a model that can be successful, if you hire smart people and let them do their jobs, but they don’t. They also created a security department a while ago, to ensure that all employees get treated like felons, which is a very rewarding environment to work in. One glimmer of hope for the future of the company is that they installed vending machines, to help offset the cost of all the money they are losing. If they can make back a couple bucks on sodas each week, then who knows… they may just make it! All in all… you suck, mOcean! I’m so happy I was able to leave the ship before it officially sunk. Get it? More nautical puns!
