Sketchy, have a lot of rough edges that need to be smoothed out, they will use and abuse you if you’re in management. - Assistant Manager pOpshelf Employee Review

Pros

Some of the best in store culture I’ve experienced working in retail sales. Super awesome and helpful higher ups that are willing to do whatever they can to help you.

Cons

There are so many issues with this company in terms of operational procedures. I was part of opening a new store and they overloaded us with 50+ rolltainers of shipment. If you’ve been in a dollar general, you’ve seen a rolltainer. They’re massive. It’s nearly impossible to get through all of the shipment because the distribution center will send you stuff you already have. Then the backstock areas become overly full with product you can’t put on the floor. It ends up becoming a hazard in the back where you can barely move. Then they’ll send you another 20+ rolltainers a week without care and expect you to figure out the space. It was a nightmare. If you’re working in management, specifically assistant management, they will make you travel to assist other stores. They reimburse you for gas and pay for hotel and give you a little money for food daily, but it genuinely was not worth the physical and mental toll it took to travel 2/4 weeks a month to a store that has been open for over a year and barely knows any operational procedures. You’re basically responsible for cleaning up their mess and working long brutal doubles. Again, the people really are very kind and understanding and the hours are somewhat flexible, but it was the most frustrating job I’ve ever had. I would never return to pOpshelf to work. Also, to get ANY sick/vacation time (they’re the same thing with this company, so you’re just using PTO), you have to work for them for a MINIMUM of one year, even if you’re in management!! I unfortunately got covid while working for pOpshelf and since it hadn’t been a year of employment for me, I was forced to take unpaid time off and it screwed me over. It was awful.

Pros

Salary isn’t terrible, your peers are helpful and available for problem solving. Benefits are there, nothing to speak highly on, 3 holidays they recognize for paid holiday. But they do offer benefits to FT employees. No sick accumulation pto days tho. Can be a very fun and interesting job. It’s a very clean and inviting store to come into.

Cons

Tasks are hard to stay on top of and complete with in a timely manner. Trucks are heavy with product and have no locations. finding employees to work part time and be productive is difficult at times. Older products are never usually marked down to sell through so it’s always building up in the stock room. Someone calls in there’s not a lot of employees (2 FT and 3 PT total) you are always required to stay if there’s no one to cover. They don’t pay much over minimum wage for entry level positions, finding the perfect fit with the right qualifications for that amount of money, is a full time job itself. No OT is ever allowed for store coverage. Heavily loaded with POG changes and seasonal change overs are becoming more often than not anymore. They allow extra hours to help with completing. Usually just enough to work your other tasks and just get started good on change overs before they drop another few.
