Kind of like a cult - sounds great, then you look around a year later and say, OMG, how did I get myself into this? - Head Coach sweetgreen Employee Review

Pros

Fresh food, healthy food. Free food for all employees. Owners and corporate folks make a real effort to know the operations folks.

Cons

Big disconnect between "treehouse" (corporate) ethos and ideals and that which happens on the ground. Disconnect between labor goals, food cost goals, and food quality & quality of life stated goals. Area Leaders generally have either no experience running a restaurant, or very little. Lots of "you should do better" without a real concept of how to advise you to do that. Budgets are written as pie in the sky goals, very difficult to hit (as opposed to stretch goals based on actual performance in past years/quarters/periods)...then you're constantly painted as incompetent for not hitting the budget that you had no input on, and that made no sense at all. It's like saying my goal is to hit 100 HR's this year, and I'm a big failure for only hitting 80....and I've never hit more than 50 in my entire life...but "100" was just declared as my goal and I suck for not hitting it. Hourly talent pool in DC is less than ideal - very little experience, lots of work ethic & timeliness issues, callouts every single day. Corporate folks all moved to California, leaving behind the Area Leaders. There has been a mass exodus of hourly supervisors and head coaches in the last 6 months. Pay is well below industry standard. Lots of hype about working in a growing company, yet there's no stock, no equity, no profit sharing, etc. In other words, "We're not going to pay you well, but you should work your tail off for us because of what's to come in the future...but we're not going to concretely tether you to that future in any way."
