Pros

This is not my first job at a startup, but I've grown a lot in the time I've been here and have a great team that I work with. Although it's not always easy and at times the work is a lot to handle with high expectations, it is rewarding and you learn a ton. We have high expectations and always maintain the best quality programs for all our families. There is also a lot of cross functional flexibility and you can dip your toes into other departments to see what sales, marketing, product, ops, etc. are like to work in and there's growth opportunities across departments. Empowerly has allowed many of my colleagues to explore and even move departments over time, from ops to product, counseling to sales, etc.

Cons

I understand that leadership has to make some hard decisions, like a lot of companies in this macro environment. Hard decisions cause some short term chaos, but Empowerly is in a much stronger place because of those choices. Some of the colleagues who are no longer with us today were really not a fit for our culture.

Pros

I edit essays here part time, which is important in helping students achieve their dreams of getting into their top-choice schools. It's awesome to see the transformation that takes place as students' essays go from a rough draft to a polished and compelling piece of writing that truly showcases their unique strengths and talents. The portal and tooling makes it super easy to do my work well.

Cons

The amount of essays available to edit is not always consistent which affects how much you get paid. Sometimes other editors claim essays that specifically requested someone else edit them, and you need to chase those people down to have them release those essays which can get annoying.

Pros

Empowerly is awesome and has been the best job I've had so far. We have incredibly talented students. They are eager to learn, to explore their options, and to work hard to achieve their goals. It is truly inspiring to see their growth and progress throughout the college application process, and I am grateful to be a part of their journey. Empowerly also provides exceptional resources and support for its counselors and team. From professional development opportunities to a supportive and collaborative work culture, I feel valued and supported in my role here.

Cons

Things move very quickly and sometimes it's hard to breathe. But we do it so that we can continue to provide excellent services for students and families. Sometimes parents also have super high expectations but their kids are less motivated, so managing those scenarios have also been challenging at times. Overall not really many cons here and the coworkers are great.
