Pros

I worked with some really great people in HR and throughout the corporate office (and within the hospitals) that genuinely care about making the company a great place to work and supporting the front line staff in the hospitals. Leadership (Jay, Mark, Doug, Cheryl) do a good job of setting the priorities and strategy for the company. Overall the values held true at the senior level, though perhaps not at a more micro level. Paid time-off was decent for a large, private-sector, publicly traded company. Compensation is okay, but not always fair between peers. Corporate does a great job of providing opportunities for employees to interact and help - like company sponsored Habitat-for-Humanity participation, large United Way events, diversity event, employee appreciation week - though individual manager support of participation varies largely across the organization.

Cons

The company is far from innovative in how it manages employees and ultimately, no one seems to care about the individual. HealthSouth's corporate office loses and fires a lot of employees who want to succeed and make the company successful because the employee either doesn't fit into the job they are currently occupying (though other strengths are apparent) or because there are simply no options to move around (especially between departments.) In a healthcare company like this, there need to be two sets of rules for employees: one for hospital/healthcare workers and one for corporate employees. For example, it makes sense to not allow a nurse or nurse tech to "work from home" since their jobs largely face patients. It does not, however, make sense to enforce that same rule for corporate employees whose jobs are primarily in front of a computer or on the phone. Additionally, for a healthcare company that claims to be on the cutting edge of patient-facing technology, the technology systems and resources at corporate are WOEFULLY outdated with no sign of improvement. The company also does an abysmal job overall at providing internal training options. For a company the size of HealthSouth ($3B with 23k employees) there should be much more training and online training options for any/all employees.

Pros

The employees are easy to get along with.

Cons

Administration (CEO, etc.) is very controlling, micro-manages, cliquish, and does not like change. Administration does not really appreciate the people who work hard, only those who are a "yes" employee.

Pros

seeing patients get better. Awesome therapists

Cons

Case management Micromanaged. You must always agree with the director and have no original thoughts. If you are a new grad with no experience to draw on this would be a good experience for you. Experienced nurses will be frustrated and smothered and disciplined if voice any concerns
