Pros

I love the patients. This is an excellent facility in the sense that it give hope to patient's that have lost it. I see remarkable outcomes from most.

Cons

It is off season so they are taking any patient that they can get in the door, a lot not appropriate for this facility. We are mostly understaffed, but they are working on it. High turnover rate. Half of our staff is agency nurses and techs so they are limited as to what they can do. Agency techs cant chart so they are instructed to give all of their notes to their nurses at the end of the shift for the nurse to do both her and the tech's charting. Understaffing or destaffing make it hard to get nursing work done due to having to answer call lights half the time with toileting, and getting the patient's out of bed, set up for breakfast, dressed and ready for therapy, all while trying to pass meds on time. It is a private hospital with key focus on revenue. Anytime it is a nice day, we are destaffed, no matter how stressful and overworked the nurses and techs are. Pay is not very good. Took a pay cut when going to this facility. I now make what I did 5 years ago.

Pros

It's a paycheck. The food was good. My coworkers were friendly.

Cons

CEO is over 3 hospitals. He is too overwhelmed to know what is going on at each facility. HR is only for the corporation. If you go to them with a complaint they will find a way to fire you. We have had several patients die due to bad nursing care. Two bled out. These deaths never should have happened. Not enough nursing staff who know what they are doing. They hire LVN's to do RN's jobs. They pay them less than they would an RN, which saves the company money. All of the management staff, such as Quality Control, CNO, HR, and education are LVN's. They don't care about experience or education when it come to management. If the CEO likes you and thinks you're cute, you get the job. The liaisons are paid a bonus for each patient that is brought in, so they admit anyone that they possibly can, whether they are too sick to come to Health South or not sick enough to need 24 hour rehab care. It's all about the money.

Pros

Diverse caseload and good clinical experience, particularly for new clinicians. Opportunity for company paid training in such things as FEES, LSVT and VitalStim and

Cons

Regularly understaffed, not always as competitive with market salaries, average length of stay continues to shrink with each passing year which may mean for some that work is less clinically satisfying as you are always seeing the beginning of the rehab process and very rarely getting to experience carrying complex patients further through their clinical evolution which requires a set of skills that you may never get to fully hone in an environment with short length of stay.
